As a loyal but sometimes frustrated reader of Dwell and other magazines over the years, it's really great to see a modernist designer think so deeply about how to keep his work affordable. We've got to get beyond the veneer of modernism and keep aiming to achieve its fundamental values. I look forward to seeing how Edgar's work progresses!

He makes a really interesting point about the Eames and the model they present not only for people with a modern aesthetic, but for creative people of all types. They were curious about everything - film, toys, furniture - and applied their craft to all these different areas.

Now I'm off to find those plans at ReadyMade...I've always wanted a backyard office. (Although in Texas it better include air conditioning!)

What a weird coincidence -- I saw this twin platform bed at my friend's house, and I fell in love with it! I love the modern but warm designs Edgar is doing, and I appreciate his willingness to share how he got started and the different decisions he's made along the way.
