Bitsy-I was so amazed and admiring of this piece about you & your wonderful life! I am truly impressed and delighted to hear of your adventures! Although it has been many years, I wish you the best and hope one day in my own travels to visit your part of the world! Marvelous article & beautiful store.

hey everyone! thanks for all the great comments and the cheerleading! means so much to me!
victoria, i think the best advice i can give you is to be humble, be observant, be hard working and go the extra mile. be okay with starting at "the bottom" at a company, and absorb everything you can. listen hard and learn. study, study, study! even when you're not at school! read trade newspapers (like WWD), sign up for blogs and newsletters on the web (one good one is "the business of fashion"--check it out!) and familiarize yourself with the terminology, the language, the dialogue and the ideas of the industry. be a PRO! :-) ask questions, seek answers, learn by doing. work in a shop, examine and study what makes merchandising and design interesting and important. i used to love to walk around to various shops every week and really study the space, try to understand why they did things the way they did, and would compare them all. you're never too old to learn--trust me on this!--and i still exercise a lot of humility every single day. i crave knowledge and learning, and i see each day as an opportunity to better myself, my store and the vision of wanderlust.
best wishes to you! you can go far and be anything you want to be, as long as you believe you can!
